Pramoditha N, an MSc Interior Design program student at JD School of Design, Bangalore, has won the Best Concept of the Year award at the JD Design Awards 2024. Her ingenious design, Bioheaven Hub, conceptualises mitigating the common dilemma of apartment residents who face a dearth of working and business spaces.
Bioheaven Hub is an innovative feature of a multifunctional space catering to the needs of apartment residents and, in particular, those engaged in home-based businesses, remote work, and students pursuing their studies. Understanding deeply how apartment living comes along with an intrinsic limitation on the space, and thus productivity and work-life balance at the core of design, Pramoditha merges all these elements into his concept with a feel of futurism. This creates the right conditions for people to be creative, productive, and community-driven.
The design includes personal pods with collapsible walls, which can easily be shifted among different activities such as working, meeting, and studying. In this way, residents would easily adjust the space to their needs, maintaining privacy and functionality. Pramoditha got his idea from the need to harmoniously blend nature with advanced technologies in a space that would not only serve practical needs but enhance the general living experience.
Bioheaven Hub depicts the theme of innovative and sustainable design. This is a commercial project, an independent area for apartments. The use of elements such as wood, glass, and steel gives both durability and aesthetic value, bringing the inside closer to nature. The materials are combined with biomorphic patterns and earthy colour palettes, making users feel better while being more productive due to the invoked feelings of serenity and hospitality.
Advanced AI technology was infused into the design for personalized, adaptive environments inside the pods. AI-infused pods, accordingly, can change depending on user preference to give the most immersive experience possible, increasing productivity and well-being. Other features, such as a self-service pantry with a vending machine for quick refreshments, a kids’ play area for parents working from home, and an informal atrium theatre space for relaxation and entertainment, are also included in the design.
Pramoditha N’s Bioheaven Hub is, in itself, a need for the present age of apartment dwellers through a multitalented space, cleverly structured and deliberate in its design. Bioheaven Hub, blending natural elements within the designs with futuristic technologies, comes up with a one-of-a-kind solution for a balanced lifestyle and high productivity. It was this very creative approach that earned Pramoditha the Best Concept of the Year award at the JD Design Awards 2024.
