Eco-Chic Decay – JD Design Awards 2024

“Eco-Chic Decay,” which was created by the MSC in Fashion Design students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology Bangalore, Shiuli Banerjee and Shruthi H.S, won the “Best Avant Garde Collection” at the JD Design Awards 2024. This collection is inspired by the elements of the earth; these four elements are: air, water, soil, and fire. Conceivably, it is possible to create garments that suggest a tale about the earth in the next several years or so.

Hence, the inspiration for the “Eco-Chic Decay” design is the four elements of the earth. Focusing on the rawness and severity of nature, fabrics, colors, and textures of a/c taken from air, water, soil, and fire are introduced. The garments are avant-garde, which implies they are extremely fashionable and contain artistic noesis. This collection plays with transparency and opacity, layers, and a sense of lightness to produce garments that are aesthetically stimulating and that encourage one to think.

The figures in “Eco-Chic Decay” are strong and linear in look. You will notice sheer coats and glistening capes, the inside bouclé for increased stiffness, and novelties, for instance, vests and bodycon outfits. This line of garments has been inspired by a vision of the earth in the year 2050, with climate change and the depletion of the natural resources expected in reality.

These garments serve the purpose of unveiling the soul of the earth and its irregularities and other defects. Through the use of transparent fabrics and the incorporation of technology, the collection boldly captures the effects of environmental destruction on society. As a result, this approach produces a cohesive and highly charged message, making each piece a statement on the theme of environmental conscience.

The choice of material and color used in “Eco-Chic Decay” contributes to its appeal. The collection employs Jimmy Choo tissue fabric, imported cotton Lycra, and PVC blue and white plastic. These materials are not only visually pleasing, but they also represent aspects of opacity and vulnerability in nature. The trims, which include the zippers and the hook-and-eye closures, give functionality and sophistication to the pieces. The currently chosen colors are based on the natural theme and include beige, blue, red, yellow, white, black, and brown. These colors represent the beauty and variety of the earth, and at the same time, they reflect the effects of people.
