MSc in Interior Design, Bangalore
Sushma H M, a MSc Interior Design course student at JD School of Design, Bangalore, was awarded Best Design of the Year at the JD Design Awards 2024. This budding designer’s project, KeeperCove, sought to devise sustainable and economically feasible resting spaces for forest guards within the bounds of forested areas.
KeeperCove belongs to the theme of sustainable design and innovation; commercially, it belongs to the category of forest environment space design.
These concrete pipes will keep the shelters economical and scalable and make deployment possible in several forested regions without any significant financial stress. The vegetal mesh not only facilitates the assimilation of the shelters into the forest environment but also provides a medium for the growth of native vegetation over time to enhance camouflage and provide natural and ecological benefits. The materials were picked for being strong, environmentally friendly, and perfectly fitting into the natural landscape.
By incorporating native vegetation into the design, KeeperCove reduces its ecological footprint while improving habitat quality for local wildlife. Such sensitive inclusions of biophilic elements set up a symbiotic relationship between the structures that human beings put up and nature itself, ensuring shelters become part of the natural landscape.
KeeperCove is an appropriate example of Sushma H M’s commitment to sustainable development and innovative design. Her project provided the forest guards with basic rest stops, offering durable and environment-integrated facilities. Blending human ingenuity with nature’s resilience, KeeperCove improves the effectiveness and morale of forest personnel working toward the conservation and biodiversity of forest ecosystems.
