From securing top positions on esteemed national stages to examining commercial manufacturing environments, interactive digital tools, and unconventional design concepts, here is a comprehensive review of our JD School September highlights. Sweeping National Laurels: National Jewellery Awards 2026 Our jewelry division recorded impressive achievements at the National Jewellery Awards 2026 (NJA), organized by the All India Gems and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC). Continuing an unbroken six-year record of rank-holding performances, an unprecedented nine students advanced to the national finals simultaneously out of more than a thousand entrants across the country: Student of the Year Category Winners: R. Gunavanti (B.Sc. JD 2024 Batch) and Hunar Jain (B.Sc. JD 2025 Batch) claimed the top national awards. Finalists included Nidhi S., Chavi Jain, Hansika Jain, Harshitha D., Sunitha Renwal B., and V. Padmaja. Designer of the Year Category Winner: Alumni designer Ms. Mithra M. (DFJD 2024 Batch) earned the prestigious title for her nature-inspired conceptual creation. Inspiration & Concept: Hunar Jain’s award-winning entry took inspiration from the sacred Vedic Agni Ahuti ritual and the ceremonial Shruva spoon—reinterpreting sacrificial flames into a dramatic arm cuff, cascading chainwork, and a wrist piece. Enrolling in a structured jewellery design course provides emerging designers with the technical groundwork to translate ritualistic, nature-driven, and futuristic ideas into award-winning luxury pieces. This standout performance underlines how dedicated guidance in jewellery designing prepares creators to stand out in competitive industry circles. Creative Fashion Showcases: Avant-Garde, Draping & Surface Exploration Our fashion department hosted a series of detailed module-end exhibitions focusing on experimental forms, surface detailing, and structural design: Avant-Garde Workshop Display: Learners unveiled high-fashion, boundary-pushing concepts that challenged conventional dressmaking through daring silhouettes and inventive structural techniques. Diploma in Fashion Design Displays: Students presented project outcomes spanning Fashion Theory, Art & Costume Appreciation, Fabric Manipulation & Ornamentation (FMO), Fashion Illustration, and Draping. The exhibits demonstrated strong technical skill in pleating, volume creation, 3D texturing, and converting cultural psychology into wearable design. The Living Thread Showcase: IV Semester students pursuing BSc Fashion and Apparel Design revealed their semester-end collections. Each participant selected an Indian craft lineage, adapting traditional motifs, surface dyeing, and loom practices into functional modern attire alongside their Apparel Production deliverables. Joining a career-focused fashion design course supplies creative minds with the technical expertise needed to harmonize artisanal heritage with contemporary aesthetic trends. Practical Learning: Industrial Exposure Visits To bridge classroom principles with large-scale industrial processing, fashion students embarked on specialized field excursions: Wet Processing & Textile Finishing: B.Sc. Fashion Design students toured Viswas Textile Processor Pvt Ltd as part of their Textile Dyeing & Printing module. Participants followed the entire transformation of greige fabric into finished dyed textiles, viewing industrial dye vessels, rotary printing equipment, laboratory testing setups, commercial quality standards, and effluent treatment plant (ETP) operations. Acquiring direct exposure to commercial dyeing and printing builds a firm foundation in material science. Leather Manufacturing & Export Workflows: Students visited the dedicated leather jacket facility at Bhartiya Fashions. As a major global supplier of leather garments, the plant offered students a thorough look into the full garment manufacturing process—from tannery operations and raw skin grading to precise pattern layout and specialized leather assembly techniques. Grasping raw material characteristics and factory floor operations remains essential for anyone planning a career in professional fashion designing. Spatial Innovations: Interior Design, Surface Coatings & Retail Displays The Department of Interior Design engaged learners through national competition orientations, human-centered design exhibitions, and 3D retail concepts: Nippon Paint AYDA Awards 2026 Briefing: Led by Ms. Sahana Gowda from Nippon Paint, students received an in-depth orientation on the theme “CONVERGE: Embracing Hyperlocal,” submission guidelines, and entry requirements for the Nippon Paint AYDA Awards. PLANTAG Coatings Design Challenge: Interior design students examined specialized surface finishes, JORA-COLOR, HYDROSTAIN products, and solid beech wood techniques to develop a flagship Hero Furniture Piece and spatial color exhibit for IndiaWood. Design Thinking Process Exhibition: Postgraduate MSc interior design candidates mapped out their full iterative development—moving from foundational 2D/3D design principles through Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test stages to deliver user-oriented spatial solutions. Mastering a systematic design thinking process allows designers to solve complex spatial problems. Brand Window Display: Management cohorts crafted commercial 3D storefront environments. By working with seasonal motifs and design elements, they evaluated how targeted visual merchandising captures consumer attention and encourages retail sales. Excelling in interior designing demands a balance between technical drafting, spatial reasoning, and material finish expertise. Enrolling in an industry-driven interior design course ensures students gain practical knowledge across material selection, surface coatings, and real-world project requirements. Artistry, Tech & Global Mentorship: Fine Arts, AI & Seminars Eclectic Fine Arts Display: B.Des students hosted a comprehensive 10-part exhibit featuring self-portraits, watercolor studies, charcoal sketching, poster-color chiaroscuro, visual contrast studies, design principles, artist replicas (Surrealism, Cubism, Abstract Art), object character development, comic storytelling panels, and Gestalt perceptual principles. Samsung AI Learning Workshop: Conducted in partnership with Samsung, The Times of India, and Half Ticket Entertainment, this interactive AI workshop introduced participants to core AI principles, productivity tools, and hands-on experience with the Samsung AI device network. UAL Portfolio Seminar: Final-year fashion students took part in an exclusive portfolio development seminar delivered by mentors from the University of the Arts London (UAL). Cultural Partnerships: Handloom Celebrations & Government Honor Serving as an associate partner for the “Threads of India” event at Lulu
