Deepthi Lunia, an intelligent student studying for a BSc in Interior Design at JD School of Design in Bangalore, has recently won the prestigious JD Design Award for Best Design of the Year. Her project Virasat – Heritage of Rajasthan; is a combination of her creative ideas and genuine understanding of people’s culture that gives her creative resources to solve interior design tasks at the highest level by expressing her approach.
“Virasat – Heritage of Rajasthan” is a dynamic project designed to create a facet of vigorously developing the Cultural Center of Rajasthani where people can immerse into actual Rajasthani heritage in its relevancy and contemporarily add on the contemporary side. The project includes a planned tourist attraction and a centre of cultural activity that will embody the historical and modern features of the state using orientation, theatrical performances, and learning facilities. The ones that the RCC would include are permanent as well as temporary exhibits that depict the multifaceted aspects of Rajasthan. These exhibits will include overviews of the history and architecture of Rajput kingdoms, arts & crafts, music & dance, clothing, and cuisine of the desert state of Rajasthan.
Among the changes will be a centre for Rajasthani art and culture hosted within the premises, which will work to archive, fund, encourage, and promote the native artists and other cultural workers dealing with local folklore and creative industry. Hence, the centre is derived bearing in mind the aim of raising consciousness for cultural or any activity, no matter which part of the world, and tourist promotion of the area to support the round-trip turnover results.
It was Deepthi Lunia who came up with this structure for the Rajasthani Cultural Centre (RCC), and with the help of traditional motifs used in Rajasthani architecture, she was able to make this a winner’s competition with today’s technological features added to the architecture. The motifs of the building and the design are derived from the rich architectural heritage of the state of Rajasthan, including the step-wells, carved houses, or havelis, and forts and palaces. Deepthi has chosen Virasat – Heritage of Rajasthan due to its interest in heritage design as his inspiration for the JD Design Award for Best Design of the Year.
The RCC will exhibit folk art and music of Rajasthan with an actual area devoted to Phad paintings, Rajasthani miniatures from private collections, and folk music selected for playing. The public can see locally crafted items like pottery, metal works, and weaving through the various performances and demonstrations. A live kitchen showcasing Rajasthani food curiosity will allow engaging with other tourists. Touchscreen technologies, widescreen video streams, and hologram hangings will be used to inform tourists about Rajasthani history, culture, and festivals.
