Vistara Cottages – JD Design Awards 2024
Pavana S. Reddy, studying MSc in Interior Design at JD School of Design, Bangalore, won an award for Best Design Solution for the project Vistara Cottages at the JD Design Awards 2024. This project seeks to redefine luxury living in compact spaces in small cottages by providing the exact range of amenities that can be found in any luxurious resort room.

Vistara Cottages is an ambitious project aimed at creating luxurious, compact living spaces that combine modern amenities with the serenity of nature. The design process focused on ‘luxury in simplicity,’ making sure that every cottage provides a tranquil and opulent escape from everyday life. Drawing inspiration from the Danish idea of ‘hygge,’ which encompasses comfort, contentment, and well-being, the cottages are envisioned as sanctuaries where guests find peace and warmth in the simplest of pleasures.
These small cottages, finished with high-grade materials and fitted with plush furniture, have adequate space inside. Each cottage is fitted with luxurious bedding, transformable furniture to utilize space and a synergy of modern technology blended with nature’s elements to enhance the guest experience.

The materials used in the project include RCC for the main structure, asphalt shingles for lightweight and durable roofing, and electrochromic smart glass for the main façade, doors, and windows to avoid bright sunlight and heat. Vinyl plank flooring is used for waterproofing. High-density polyethene, or polywood, is recycled and can be reprocessed to be used for the same purposes as the original product in transformable furniture and wardrobes. Aluminium, a lightweight metal with high corrosion resistance, is used, n railings, rods, and transformable furniture. Velvet and canvas fabrics for headboards and wardrobes add a touch of luxury.
Vistara Cottages spells out the very essence of harmony and tranquillity. With soft neutrals, ocean blues, teak wood grain, canvas texture, and smooth resin wicker, the visual elements represent panoramic views of simple furniture with flashes of minimalist luxury, hence serene and inviting.
The sustainability of Vistara Cottages is reflected in eco-friendly materials and renewable sources of energy. Automation technology for increased comfort to the guests but not at the cost of the ambience of the cottage. This is a careful and detailed design approach that makes Vistara Cottages not just a place to stay but an experience that will nurture the spirit and foster a luxurious lifestyle adjusted to nature.
