Evolution from Compulsions by H. M. Vasavi

B.Sc. in Fashion and Apparel Design 2022

H. M. Vasavi’s avant-garde collection, Evolution from Compulsions, explores the transformative power of colour psychology through high-concept fashion. Designed for women aged 18–25, the collection is a bold visual narrative that traces the emotional progression experienced by individuals with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)—from inner chaos to balance and clarity.

Each garment in the collection uses colour not just as an aesthetic, but as a language. Dark, intense tones express anxiety and compulsions, while gradually shifting hues introduce calm, control, and liberation. Through this thoughtful palette, emotions are externalised and reinterpreted as wearable art.

Textiles like cotton, linen, velvet, net, and can-can are sculpted into dramatic silhouettes using techniques like fabric manipulation, embroidery, and print work. These experimental forms push the boundaries of conventional fashion, creating a collection that is both introspective and visually striking.

Rooted in the principles of design—balance, rhythm, harmony—Evolution from Compulsions achieves cohesion despite its abstract theme. Every detail is intentional, serving both emotional and artistic functions.

This collection is more than fashion—it’s therapy through design. It invites viewers into a psychological landscape shaped by colour and form, and offers a powerful reminder: healing isn’t linear, but it can be beautifully expressive.
