From The Classrooms To Milestones: April 2026 At JD School of Design

April at JD School of Design is a month that seems like one of movement, where ideas get explored, skills get sharpened, and milestones get celebrated. April is a month that unites learning, looking into the future and making memories that actually matter.

Learning To Observe, Not Just Snap Pictures

On April 16th, Canon organised a photography workshop that encouraged students to see the bigger picture. Mr Mohan Dass Mathew and Mr Siltu Ghosh delivered a session that encouraged all participants to think outside the box. Although the session involved learning about the basic technical details of photography, it included an element of thinking in terms of light and other aspects required to make a narrative out of the photographs taken. Perhaps what was most notable about this session was its approach – rather than snap pictures, the idea was to communicate using photography.

Where Fashion Meets Future

“The Role of Fashion Design in the Age of AI,” by Divya Gulati, was refreshing because it brought a futuristic approach to the classroom setting. The discussion led to debates about the role of technology as an enabler of innovation and not as an obstructionist element. Divya Gulati made the ideas about virtual styling, wardrobe optimisation, and how AI can assist in building a better future with fashion design very clear. It was not a conventional lecture but rather an image of the future that the students got from this talk. The students realised that their career path in the future would take a variety of turns.

Purposeful Creation: The Weaving Workshop

Blog Collage 3

The Danish Cord-initiated Hands-On Weaving Workshop brought in a whole new rhythm in the month, one that was more thoughtful, contemplative, and immersive. Under the tutelage of Mr Govind SG, the students worked with Danish cords made of bamboo pulp and engaged themselves in a practice requiring them to be very meticulous, focused, and diligent. It was not just a workshop; it was a reconnection with the philosophy of design, where the process is as important as the product, and traditional crafts continue to have relevance in contemporary design.

Moment of Pride – Celebrating Greatness!

From The Classrooms To Milestones: April 2026 At JD School of Design

This month has seen yet another cause for celebration and inspiration at the JD School of Design. One of the best achievements that was witnessed during the Bengaluru City University Rank Felicitation was none other than Deepthi Sri, who was first in her class. She serves as a source of inspiration for everyone. From her initial days of setting up her base to excelling in her class, her life is a remarkable example for all students to follow.

Learning and Beyond

Many things were unique about April at the JD School of Design, and one of them was the way in which students were taught. It could be through the viewfinder of a camera, or via a computer interface, or even on the loom. Somewhere along the way, learning turned into discovering, and discovering turned into growing.

Across disciplines, students stepped beyond conventional boundaries to explore design as a powerful medium of expression, storytelling, and transformation. The month began on a high note as our design students brought the Cruise Carnival stage to life with a spectacular fashion showcase. Through bold costumes, playful concepts, and imaginative designs, the runway transformed into a visual celebration of color, movement, and festive energy—capturing the true spirit of carnival. Expanding their learning beyond garments, our BSc First Year Fashion Design students visited The Good Life Store in Fontainhas. In an engaging session with founder Anjana Sharma, students gained valuable insights into retail strategy, sustainability, and conscious curation. The experience highlighted how thoughtfully designed retail spaces can communicate powerful narratives and elevate brand identity. Innovation met functionality as students explored bathroom and sanitation design, reimagining everyday spaces through the lens of elegance and smart living. This exercise emphasized how design can enhance quality of life by seamlessly blending aesthetics with practicality. Under the theme “Designing Experiences: Spaces That Speak,” our BSc Interior Design students translated theoretical concepts into immersive spatial environments. Their projects showcased the harmony between art and interiors, where each design told a unique story. From conceptual installations to expressive spatial forms, students demonstrated how ideas evolve into meaningful, lived experiences. Creativity in craftsmanship took center stage with Threads and Textures, where Diploma in Fashion Design students explored fabric manipulation and ornamentation. Through intricate embroidery techniques and innovative fabric explorations, they transformed simple materials into detailed, expressive works of art—reflecting patience, precision, and creativity. March also marked the much-anticipated Young Designers Festival 2026, a dynamic three-day celebration of creativity and collaboration. The festival brought together exhibitions, expert talks, presentations, heritage walks, and architectural explorations across Panjim—creating an inspiring platform where ideas flourished and learning extended beyond classrooms. We are proud to celebrate our students’ achievements at Converge 3.0, where Interior Design students were recognized as Young Entrepreneurs 2026. A proud moment was the interaction between the Honorable Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, and our student Kabir Rastogi, who ներկայացed an innovative virtual reality model. The project—a thoughtfully designed 2BHK apartment for an artist—embraced a client-centered approach, blending Wabi-Sabi, Biophilic, and Bohemian design philosophies. The resulting space was envisioned as earthy, natural, and serene, where textures, materials, and organic forms come together to create harmony and authenticity. As we conclude March, the journey reflects a commitment to designing beyond boundaries—where creativity meets purpose, and ideas evolve into impactful experiences. At JD School of Design, every project is a step toward shaping future-ready designers and innovators.

The month unfolded like a live studio, extending from exhibition halls to factory floors, from marble warehouses to construction sites. It was a month where ideas met industry, and students stepped confidently into professional spaces long before graduation. Global Textiles, Real Conversations Fabrics & Accessories Trade Show & Apparel Sourcing Fair 2026 The Trade Centre KTPO, Whitefield, became a global meeting ground for the textile and apparel ecosystem during the Fabrics & Accessories Trade Show & Apparel Sourcing Fair (ASF) 2026. As Official Academic Collaborators, JD School of Design ensured that students were not just passive observers but were able to engage with sourcing heads, manufacturers, and innovators to know how trends were forecasted, how negotiations were done, and how the world actually works. Some of the defining highlights were when students presented their own installation, “SECOND LIFE”, made from waste fabrics that were given a new life as a narrative, highlighting sustainability not as a trend but as a necessity. From Idea to Impact Design Talk Series – II: From Classroom to Campaign On February 26, Block B was turned into a strategic thinking lab as Muralidhar Hegde, CEO of Smartworks, addressed students as a part of the Design Talk Series – II. Through real campaign case studies and agency workflows, he decoded: The session focused on the evolution of briefs into concepts. How strategy supports creativity. How structured pipelines shape execution. What the industry truly expects from emerging designers. The session felt less like a lecture and more like a behind-the-scenes access pass to the professional world of branding and communication. Design Rooted in Culture Jaipur Display – Jewellery Design For the Jewellery Design cohorts, February culminated in the Jaipur Display — a showcase inspired by experiential learning journeys. The display captured the spirit of heritage craftsmanship, architectural influences, and material storytelling. Students translated observation into ornament, turning research into refined design pieces that balanced tradition with contemporary interpretation. Understanding Materials Beyond the Catalogue Gala Marble Store Visit The interior design students from the DID October 2025 batch entered the world of materials with a visit to Gala Marble Store. The materials range from marble and quartzite to lava stone murals and upholstery systems. The students learned from materials beyond theory. Instead of studying materials on paper, they learned from experience, including considerations such as sourcing, cost, and functionality. Engineering Space Intelligently Invisible Bed Factory Workshop The BSc IDD 23 batch explored the mechanics of multifunctional furniture during their workshop visit to Invisible Bed. Here, space-saving design was not theoretical — it was mechanical, precise, and purposeful. Students observed: Transformable furniture systems. Hardware mechanisms. Production workflows. The integration of engineering with aesthetics. The experience concluded with workshop certificates, marking both participation and professional growth. Technology Meets Interior Environments Indux Plus @ Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) On two highly immersive days, interior design students were given an opportunity to explore Indux Plus. Day one of the visit was dedicated to vertical mobility solutions, lifts, elevator interiors, and automated parking. This gave the interior design students an insight into how technology effortlessly merges with built environments. Day two of the visit was dedicated to furniture systems, sustainable lighting, upholstery details, and heritage pieces crafted by skilled artisans. Multiple batches participated, reinforcing cross-level exposure and shared learning. The Business Behind the Build Live Construction Site Visit For MSc Interior Design 2024 (A & B) and PGDID 2024 students, February also meant stepping into an active construction site. This visit emphasised the business dimension of design — coordination with contractors, BOQ interpretation, vendor management, execution timelines, and cost monitoring. The students witnessed how drawings transform into structures, how responsibility goes beyond creativity to management, and how decisions are made. It was designed in motion, structured, collaborative, and accountable. Beyond the Classroom, Into the Industry February 2026, at JD School of Design, was marked by movement – movement between disciplines, spaces, and viewpoints. From textiles to advertising strategies, from craftsmanship in jewellery making to intelligent systems of mobility, from marble slabs to construction sites – all experiences underscored one thing: Design education needs to be experienced to be understood. At JD School of Design, exposure is not an afterthought. It is an integral part of the learning process, designed to ensure students are not only entering the industry but are able to navigate it with clarity, confidence, and creative responsibility.
