Nadu Nest, the winner of the Contextual Design Excellence Award by designer Lanchana Nanda, is a serene setting nestled in the tranquil greens of Coorg. The whole joint is a mashup of classic Malnad soul and those sleek, “let’s declutter our lives” modern lines. It’s cosy but not cramped, stylish but not so hip you feel like you’ll spill coffee on a $2,000 sofa.

You walk in, and the first thing you catch is that earthy, almost nostalgic feel—sloped roofs ready for the monsoons, big wrap-around verandahs begging for a book and a cup of filter coffee. The wooden stuff’s not store-bought. It’s real, crafted-by-local-hands furniture that whispers stories at you. Keeping it authentic without turning it into a museum.
The color palette is easy on the eyes, with a lot of neutrals, and the layouts are wide open—nothing to cause claustrophobia. But then you notice the exposed stone, the wood that looks like genuine wood, and lime-plastered walls that aren’t afraid to show a little texture. Little carved doodads peek out from doorways, the classic sloped roof hangs with purpose, and those verandahs pretty much invite you to slow down and listen to some rain.

Lanchana Nanda pulled off a sneaky genius: she made the old-school Malnad comfort totally blend with current-day design smarts. Nothing clashes. Nothing feels forced. You get this spot that makes you think “hmm, am I in a boutique retreat or someone’s ancestral home?”
