Optimising Urban Living by Riya Khema
MSc in Interior Design
Riya Khemka reinvents the classic 4BHK joint family apartment, all in the name of squeezing the most out of city living. And she’s not doing it in a boring way. No, it’s got walls that slide, fold, or spin depending on your mood or the chaos level of your family that day. It’s like your house is cosplaying as a Swiss Army knife.

Bedrooms that morph into chill-out lounges, tiny little nooks that open up when you need a zoom yoga or a seven-person card night. The furniture’s got next-level Tetris energy—everything folds away, stacks, or disappears. Beds vanish, couches piece apart, hidden storage everywhere so you can see the floor.

The entire set-up is ripped out of some “living smarter, not harder” playbook. Riya’s tone is all about keeping it fresh and flexible, but also super easy on the eyes—clean lines, nothing too heavy. Everything’s on standby. Like your house takes a breather when you do.
She calls it PAUSE, which is kind of clever. The spaces aren’t just about DOING stuff, it’s about those little moments when you just want to exist. Sit, reset, tune out the world. The whole design is a love letter to peace and flexibility. You wanna live light, this is the blueprint.
