The Alchemy of Chaos: Beauty Reborn Through Disorder
Taysha Althea Pereira - B.Sc. in Fashion and Apparel Design 2022
Taysha Althea Pereira’s The Alchemy of Chaos, the winner of The Stitch and Form Award, is a dramatic Spring-Summer evening wear collection that transforms emotional distress and distils it into sophisticated symbolism. Through the intersection of structure and softness, the collection invites the wearer to pause—to embrace chaos not as destruction, but as a catalyst for individual transformation.

Taking inspiration from the alchemy concept of transforming base material to gold, Taysha employs fashion to speak about how identity evolves through conflict. Turmoil is depicted with lines of fabric, raw strips, and layered textures, producing a sense of turmoil. On the other hand, floral prints and ornamentation in gold emerge as symbols for beauty and strength, blooming defiantly in the midst of chaos.
The pieces—dresses and blouses—crafted from Lachka, a four-way stretch fabric that offers both flexibility and structure, and satin, selected for its smooth texture and lustrous finish. This combination of materials captures the emotional duality of the collection, balancing vulnerability with strength, and restraint with freedom.

Color reinforces the narrative:
- Black indicates inward struggle and world stress.
- White indicates transparency and the act of emancipation.
- Gold indicates metamorphosis—the glowing product of inward labour and self-actualization.
On the canvas of evening wear, The Alchemy of Chaos transcends fashion—it’s a visual and sensory interpretation of transformation. In the fusion of emotional narrative and fashion, Taysha imbues clothing that not only decorates the body but also the inner process of finding one’s amidst chaos.
This collection is an open challenge to slow down, to step back and think, and to celebrate that beauty tends to arise out of our most difficult times.
