The Story Pod: A Reading and Relaxation Retreat
BSc in Interior Design
In today’s fast-paced, distraction-filled world, The Story Pod is a great concept—a folding bookstore pop-up, inviting people to stop and take a little time with a book. Poonam R Sakariya’s design is a modern blend of style and comfort in a space-efficient package, ideal for reading and contemplation.

Based on Vastu Shastra, the library incorporates natural elements into its architecture. For instance, a water feature in the northeast corner creates a sense of tranquillity, while copper accents and warm lighting in the southeast provide an energizing element. All these create a balanced space that is perfect for thinking and learning.
The furniture design was inspired by antique Indian collapsible furniture, such as charpais and khatiyas, thus rendering it highly flexible. Produced from bamboo, engineered wood, and fold-out frames, the furniture is effortlessly collapsible to a compact size. Featuring accessories such as fold-out bookcases, origami-style seating, and pull-in canopies, the furniture is ideal for private reading or relaying stories at parks, rail stations, or in villages.

The Story Pod transforms overlooked spaces into cocoons of calm where people can slow down and immerse themselves in the tactile joy of reading. The sensory details, like earthy materials, warm tones, and natural texture, enhance this experience.
In the end, The Story Pod brings knowledge within reach and welcomes moments of quiet. It’s not a wandering library—it’s a chance to hit pause on our busy lives, welcoming all to breathe, learn something new, and simply enjoy being here.
