Wabi-Sabi by Ruquaiya Perween

B.Sc. in Fashion and Apparel Design 2022

Ruquaiya Perween’s new Ready-to-Wear collection, Wabi-Sabi: The Harmony in Imperfections, is a moving exploration of the Japanese philosophy that sees beauty in the incomplete, the frayed, and the imperfect. Grounded in reality, the collection urges us to pause and luxuriate in the quiet beauty of life’s imperfections.

Drawing inspiration from the wabi-sabi philosophy, Ruquaiya marries conflicting energies: distressed, upcycled denim with light, ethereal tulle. The result is a collection that’s grounded and yet otherworldly, one in which toughness and vulnerability coexist in symbiosis. It’s sustainable, storytelling fashion.

With a passion for conscious design, each piece is made from recyclable materials, breathing new life and purpose into vintage denim. Each item is unique, with delectable stitching, hand-painted embellishments, and reflective finishes. They’re all different, and that is the concept.

The 10-piece capsule collection has something for women in their thirties and twenties, as well as dashing, comfort-oriented pieces for kids. It’s clothes that not only look lovely but also invite self-expression, contemplation, and comfort.

Wabi-Sabi isn’t following trends—it’s embracing serenity in turmoil, and beauty in fault. It’s for anyone who thinks fashion needs to mirror life: flawed, changing, and important. If you’re attracted to clothing that has character, tales, and longevity, Wabi-Sabi is more than a collection—it’s a whispered revolution.
