This March, the students of JD School of Design held a series of interesting exhibitions that showcased their remarkable ability, skill, and creativity in different fields of design. From business design’s strategic thinking to interior design’s interactive historical narrative, exhibitions were a testament to how the school produces future leaders in design.
MBA FBEM Module End Display: A Celebration of Strategic Thinking and Creativity
The MBA FBEM batch of 2024 Module End Display was more than a final project—it was the culmination of their learning experience. The display integrated assignments and projects done throughout the program, giving a glimpse of the students’ strategic thinking, creativity, and application of business and design principles. With sheet works and models, the students unveiled their master concepts, demonstrating how design and business decisions can unite to create strong strategies in the retail and fashion industries.
Visual Merchandise Display by BSc Jewellery Design 2023: A Glamorous Story of Luxury
The BSc Jewellery Design 2023 team unveiled a breathtaking visual merchandising display that was as lovely to behold as it was a masterclass in brand storytelling. The display featured iconic international jewellery brands such as Tiffany & Co., Chopard, Pandora, and Swarovski, with each piece meticulously curated to reflect the unique identity and heritage of the brand. The students took it a step further by weaving a narrative around each brand—Tiffany’s timeless elegance, Pandora’s charm, Chopard’s luxury, and S¯warovski’s dazzling sparkle. But it was not only about the jewelry; the students had grasped the potential of sensory branding, employing specially designed lighting to accentuate the glint of the pieces and introducing a light fragrance to complement the experience for the shoppers. This presentation was a stunning example of the potential of design to engage multiple senses to narrate the story of a brand and enrich the shopping experience.
BSc Interior Design Display 2022: Draped in Design – A Synthesis of Textiles, Accessories, and Sustainability
The 2022 BSc Interior Design took the guests through “Draped in Design,” an exhibition that mapped the intersection of textiles, accessories, and interior space. It was a presentation of design thinking, making, and sustainability. The event showcased a selection of fabric catalogues with varying textures, colors, and patterns, reflecting the students’ conceptualization of materiality in design. Highlights included the “Best Out of Waste” furniture display, where sustainability and creativity came together. The students transformed waste materials into practical, trendy pieces of furniture, which proved that design does not always have to be beautiful—design can also be sustainable. The event also displayed interior accessory prototypes that were both beautiful and functional, providing new ideas in terms of design.
IDD 2023: The Ghostly Gufa – A Haunted Tour Down History and Handwork
The BSc Interior Design Development (IDD) batch 2023 opted to turn theatrical with their exhibition, “The Ghostly Gufa.” A paranormal spectrophotonic experience that incorporated history, craftsmanship, and an element of the supernatural.
It was an exciting presentation of the students’ vast knowledge of design history, building details, and set design, all tied together with an exciting haunted house theme. The display consisted of historic interiors with very detailed models of famous buildings and architectural features. From ancient Greek temples to Art Deco skyscrapers, each scaled model demonstrated the students’ awareness of architectural styles and interior design principles. Visitors were also given a glimpse of construction detailing, with door and window models demonstrating precision work. But the most magic of “The Ghostly Gufa” was its experience. Spooky lighting, sound effects, and theme props provided the ambiance of a ghostly cave where history meets the supernatural. It was an entirely new experience, combining intellectual learning with creative storytelling and challenging the limits of interior design as a storytelling art.
JD School of Design’s March exhibitions were visually an absolute celebration of creativity and talent nurtured in the school. Each of the performances was more than a technical demonstration; they were powerful stories demonstrating the application of design to move the senses, tell stories, and create immersive experiences. Fashion, jewelry, or interior design, the students illustrated that design is not simply about appearance—it’s about creating meaningful, effective experiences that individuals can engage with.
The talent and creativity available at JD School of Design were motivating, and it’s apparent that these students are very well along on their way to leaving their design legacy behind.
