CULTIV-ATE by Kashvi Katariya

BSc in Interior Design

Kashvi Katariya created the CULTIV-ATE, the winner of the Best Biophilic Spatial Design Award, is not just any restaurant. It’s a calm place where you can enjoy nature and focus on being eco-friendly. There’s a cool glass hydroponic garden right in the middle, showing off the beauty of nature in a laid-back way.

The café has areas that make you want to stick around, whether you’re just stopping by for a quick coffee or sitting down to think things over. The three-tiered seating gives you options—from cozy spots for chatting to quiet corners for some alone time. Patterned after nature’s landscape, the levels create dynamic social spaces that invite connection and reflection.

Materiality is the secret to grounding the concept. Earthy tranquility derives from warm wooden surfaces, while solid, dark-colored seating adds contrast and contemporaneity. Curved furniture encourages movement and fluidity, and soft, ambient lighting wraps the space in comfort. All the elements are designed to promote mental calm and balance of senses.

The hydroponic centerpiece is not just a visual delight—it’s a gentle educator. Watching greens grow before your very eyes is a reminder of slowness, patience, and focus—things that are lost in our fast-paced lives. By placing this living environment at its center, the café invites mindfulness and forges a greater sense of connection to sustainability.

Ultimately, CULTIV-ATE is a space that calls people to pause, to breathe, to move slowly, and to appreciate the loveliness of nature-forward design. It’s not just a café—it’s a conscious living experience.
