September was truly a remarkable month at JD School of Design – a vibrant concoction of creativity, cultural expression, hands-on learning, and community spirit.

Design Takes the Stage – JD Design Mela by B.Sc. IDD June 2025 Batch

JD Design Mela, a colorfully module-end display curated by B.Sc. IDD June 2025 batch marked the beginning of the month on a highly inspirational note. With students wrapping up their Fundamentals of Interior Design module, the Draping Lab was transformed into a vibrant exhibition of creativity and innovation.

The display depicted design principles through hands-on experimentation and craftsmanship by interactive sheets featuring magnets, pop-up art, printing techniques, and scaled prototype models. The initiative gave students a chance to showcase their original thinking, meticulous work, and conceptual zoning – thus, making a theoretical bridge to a practical world. Every nook and cranny was bubbling with the thrill of students’ progression as young interior designers.

Festivities in Full Bloom – Onam Celebrations

September 4th saw the JD campus bursting into colour and joy as students enthusiastically celebrated Onam. The making of gorgeous Pookkalams—detailed floral art representing prosperity and togetherness—was the centre of attraction. Laughter, music, and the scent of flowers could be sensed all over the area as the traditional dance performances and a fashion show enlivened Kerala’s spirit. The fest was a great merger of past and present — uniting people through the spirit of design and festival.

A Surprise with Heart – Teacher’s Day Celebrations

The Jediiian Design Council planned a beautiful surprise for the faculty by organising a heartwarming Teacher’s Day celebration. From the start of the day turned into an awesome event with games, performances, and laughter — the happy cake-cutting ceremony was the icing on the cake. The occasion was an excellent presentation of the JD family concept, where teachers are not only mentors but also the guiding stars in every student’s creative journey.

Global Inspiration – Nippon AYDA 2025

September also marked JD’s presence at Nippon AYDA 2025 (Asia Young Designer Awards) — a prestigious global platform for the celebration of design innovation. The challenge asks young contestants to provide sustainable and human-centric solutions to real-world issues. Furthermore, it acts as a conduit between academia and the design industry, giving students access to a variety of global outlooks, mentorship, and the chance to sharpen their artistic voice. AYDA remains a source of motivation for JD’s young designers to think big, be responsible, and create a social impact through design.

Creative Workshop – “Mark Making for Design” with Josephine Cowell

One of the most rewarding experiences of the month was the Mark Making for Design workshop conducted by Josephine Cowell, International Academic at UAL’s London College of Communication. The last-year students’ session was designed to prompt the participants to venture boldly into texture, tool, and material experimentation — thereby rejuvenating one’s creative side. Students were so absorbed in the physical activity of mark-making that they reaped the benefits of on-the-spot creativity and exuberant expression through design.

Clay, Craft, and Creativity – Pottery Workshop

Adding more to the month’s hands-on experiences, the B.Sc. The IDD 2025 batch had fun making pottery as a part of the 2D and 3D Graphics module.

Under the tutelage of master craftsmen, students moulded clay into meaningful shapes, learning the “language of texture, materiality, and form.” The session declared the splendour of skill and patience, reminding the students that a great design is often the very touch, instinct, and trial from which it begins.

Sustainability in Focus – The Conscious Carpet Campaign

JD students also participated in Sustainable Fashion Week India at Hotel Shangri-La, Bengaluru, through The Conscious Carpet Campaign. This Wellness in Textiles project included workshops on embroidery, sewing, mending, and careful garment care, all of which fostered sustainability and an emotional bond with clothes. JD students were essential in installations, assisting with wayfinding, and curating the event, leading the audience to see that design can bring about positive change.

Dancing Through Tradition – Navratri Garba Night

September ended with a bang at Navratri Garba Night — a fantastic evening of colours, rhythm, and celebration. The campus was sparkling with colourful ghagras, kurtas, music, and dance as students came together to honour creativity and community. It was not just about Garba — it was about the togetherness that defines JD.

Through captivating displays and workshops, cultural festivities, and industry collaborations, September 2025 was a reflection of what JD School of Design really represents — learning beyond classrooms, celebrating creativity, and nurturing designers of skill, heart, and soul.
