Lotus Révérence by Kanchana S Achar
B.Sc. in Fashion and Apparel Design 2022
With her evocative series “Lotus Révérence,” fashion designer Kanchana S Achar bridges a cross-cultural dialogue between the lacy excesses of European Lotus Révérence and Indian Pichwai paintings’ spiritual richness. This prêt-à-porter series is not simply an intersection of two art traditions—it’s a seamless marriage of past and future, East and West, and decoration and function.

Inspired by the romantic touches of Lotus Révérence—its flowers, curves, and ornamented charm—Kanchana marries them with the spiritual story themes of Pichwai, renowned for its depiction of Krishna and Indian traditional piety. The result is a series that is both baroque and reflective, designed for women who adore beauty with content.
Lotus Révérence is for the modern Indian and global woman, merging artistic expression into daily garments. Each item is specifically designed to alternate between festive and regular wear, so high art can be cosy and wearable. Soft draping, subtle embroidery, and tiered motifs give the garments a sense of perpetual loveliness, while creative silhouettes ground them in the present.

The line is addressing a woman who is culturally rooted but world-wondering—someone who looks for tales within the seams and character within the particulars. Lotus Révérence, Kanchana S Achar doesn’t merely create clothing—she designs a wearable canvas on which romance, ritual, and modern life intersect in poetic balance.
