Rasa Vastra Veda by Sreelakshmi M

MSc in Interior Design

Sreelakshmi M, the winner of the Best Live Experience Excellence Award, went all out for her JDDA 2025 project— Rasa Vastra Veda, planted in the historic Opera House on Brigade Road. The whole ambience gives tradition pressing pause and catching a breath in the middle of this techy, modern flair.

She’s remixing the game with a mash-up of performances, learning, shopping, and, soaking in culture. Sounds like an art lover’s fever dream. You walk in, and there’s Koothambalam-inspired amphitheatre, music studios tuned so tight you can probably taste the notes, and dance spots for styles like Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam. All the classics, basically.

She’s mixed old and new. Earthy, homely stuff all over—terracotta, teak, brass, laterite—so it echoes of Kerala in your face. Then there’s AR and VR trial rooms. You can ‘try on’ some digital threads and even do a bit of meta-dance-off.

For her, “Pause” isn’t just about standing still; it’s a whole mood of stopping, breathing, really seeing what’s around you. Every step of experience, from the show to the café to all the little nooks—is set up to make you slow down, look around, and let some culture sink in. Sometimes you just need to chill and let the arts do their thing.

Rasa Vastra Veda isn’t just a cool building. It’s part sanctuary, part time machine, part interactive museum—where ancient traditions aren’t just put on ice, but pulse with new energy. Sreelakshmi’s given us a place to hit pause, vibe with some epic heritage, and walk out feeling a little more connected than when you walked in.
