Totti Mane B Manve S Reddy

DEEPTI CHIRAMAN - B.Sc. in Interior Design 2022

Totti Mane, by designer Manve S Reddy, the Best Conservation of Vernacular Design Award, gives a fresh spin to an old family home, turning it into a heritage stay that mixes tradition, comfort, and sustainability. It takes inspiration from the thotti mane, a house built around a central courtyard, keeping the cultural vibe while making it work for today’s needs.

The central courtyard is the heart of the home, bringing in natural light and fresh air while connecting all areas of the stay. The design embraces a rustic and rich style, where cosy feels meet beautiful visuals. Earthy tones like terracotta, indigo, deep greens, and warm wood create a comfy and authentic atmosphere.

Totti Mane’s vibe comes from using natural materials that are sourced locally. They’ve got teak wood, cane, mud plaster, handmade tiles, and brass fittings, all chosen to support sustainability and local craftsmanship. These materials help keep the environmental impact down and appreciate the skills of local artisans.

Lanchana Nanda pulled off a sneaky genius: she made the old-school Malnad comfort totally blend with current-day design smarts. Nothing clashes. Nothing feels forced. You get this spot that makes you think “hmm, am I in a boutique retreat or someone’s ancestral home?”
