Motivational seminars, innovative workshops, and more were designed to develop students’ skills, ignite their imagination, and equip them with success in fashion and design careers. The Marble Seminar: The Eternal Art of Timeless Design Materials Among the highlights for Interior Design students was the seminar titled Exploring the World of Marbles. Facilitated by Mr. Hardik, a marble expert with over 30 years of experience, the seminar gave students a very rare opportunity to delve into the world of marble and natural stones in depth. Mr. Hardik discussed his extensive experience of how such materials are quarried and developed into beautiful design items that find application in architecture and interior design. Throughout the seminar, the students were introduced to the different types of marble, traditional to contemporary, and were also informed on how to choose the appropriate type for each design project. Mr. Hardik showed the manner in which marble is worked and polished and also the delicate work involved in preparing marble pieces installed in luxury interiors. What made the seminar even more effective was that it was also focused on sustainability. Students learned to think about the environmental impact of the materials they work with for their designs. Responsible sourcing and the green aspect of designing with natural stones were emphasised, so the seminar became not only a lesson in design but in green consciousness as well. This session not only developed the knowledge of the students regarding marble as a designing material but also gave them a new vision of how to design sustainably. It was a reflective experience that emphasised the importance of juxtaposing aesthetics with environmental responsibility. Pepe Jeans Fashion Designers Awards and Styling Workshop Another exciting activity conducted in February was the Pepe Jeans Fashion Designers Awards and Styling Workshop. The event provided fashion design students with a priceless opportunity to learn about one of the most popular fashion brands, Pepe Jeans. Renowned for its leading fashion concepts in denim, the company has continually revolutionized the fashion world through its groundbreaking approach to casual wear. The theme for this year’s awards was Transitional Denim Lifestyle, in which students had to design clothes that combined vintage denim with today’s trends in a harmonious way. The workshop delved into how denim, a classic fabric, can be transformed to fit various styles and occasions. The students were taught how to layer denim, combine textures, and design outfits that could be dressed up and down, from day to night, and from casual to formal. This workshop was not only learning but also a source of showcasing their creativity. They received a chance to present their designs in front of industry professionals, which opened up potential career paths. The feedback they gained from the professionals gave them invaluable inputs that will influence their future fashion output. February 2025 in JD School of Design was a wonderful month for learning, making, and growth. Be it the integrated marble seminar for Interior Designers or hands-on fashion workshops for prospective designers, everything was informative for students with very important information and skills which would prove advantageous for them while commencing professional life. These activities show JD School of Design’s dedication to exposing students to equipment and experience needed to prosper in the design and fashion industry, highly competitive as it is. With the inclusion of the invitation of industry professionals and the release of real-world information, the school makes sure that not only do its students possess technical knowledge, but also confidence and creativity needed to succeed in their own futures.

It was a grand meeting of the three brilliant minds- Prof. Aditya Jayadas, Mr. Sounak Sen Barat, and Ms. Prithvi R. N.—for a fruitful discussion on philosophies driving their design practices and how the challenges were turned into opportunities for them in their respective fields. The event began with a stirring address by Prof. Aditya Jayadas Associate Professor of Oklahoma State University where he shared his expertise relating to human factors, ergonomics, and biophilic design. In product, anthropology, and biomechanics work, he helped establish how we think about designs for spaces that are practical enough but also enhance the relationships between human beings and the environment to be better. Prof Jayadas focused on products and human and environment-based environments, focusing purely on human needs rather than merely their look or face.  It was now the fashion world that stepped into the limelight as the Creative Director and Founder of House of Three, Mr Sounak Sen Barat, entered the dais with two decades of experience in Indian fashion and a story that narrates a journey of creativity, cultural appreciation, and a very unique sartorial vision that is not so different from Western but, for sure, has its soul – distinctly Indian. His session was a beautiful exercise in how design can go beyond the trends of the moment and reflect the identity of culture and dynamics in modern design. Having done it from brand creation to styling, his insight was a masterclass on blending tradition with innovation. The event also hosted Ms. Prithvi R. N., Associate Director of Livspace, presenting an experience in interior designing and business excellence that adds another dimension to a discussion. With more than 50 homes designed throughout his career and huge revenues handled, Prithvi integrates innovation with strategic growth through design. She journeyed from entrepreneurship to leading design projects at Livspace. Her story said much about the importance of design thinking for both creative and commercial success. She spoke very passionately about how interior design impacts not just aesthetics but also emotional and functional well-being in a space. This collaboration between JD School of Design and Oklahoma State University (OSU) brought to life a thought-provoking summit that transcended boundaries in design. The students shared how they have transformed respective industries not only with skill but with a deep understanding of the human experience and, indeed, the world around them. The summit was a celebration of the power of design to change perspectives, enhance lives, and define the future.  As the event came to a close, attendees were left with a renewed sense of inspiration, armed with the knowledge that design is not just about creating—it’s about transforming. Through thoughtful, innovative, and strategic design, we can turn challenges into opportunities and create a world that is as functional as it is beautiful.

The design took centre stage at this unique gathering that celebrated life, culture, and creativity and brought together senior citizens for a rich cultural experience. The JD School of Design students proudly showcased the spectacular fashion show to prove that design is truly for all, regardless of age.  At the centre of the evening was the sheer collection ‘The Eternal Dance of Time,’ created by the talented designers from JD School of Design. Not just a tribute to the timeless beauty of nature, it was itself a testimony to the philosophy that design transcends age, body, and time, embracing all individuals with grace and elegance.  A journey through the four seasons The show walked the audience through a visual journey of the aesthetic captured through designs that spoke to the heart of nature’s beauty, all the way from spring to summer, autumn, and winter. The concept of the collection spoke to the fact that, in reality, fashion and design are indeed universal, just like life itself: transformations, growth, and renewal. Spring: Delicate, white shades with florals revived spring’s renewal and rebirth. Models representing spring energies that bloom in spring hit the runway in all ages to represent freshness and new beginnings, as no stage in life should be deprived of renewal. Summer: Silhouettes have become white, bright, airy in summer, and full of vitality. Flowing fabrics, overflowing energy, and joy—summer means a focus on comfort while moving, depicts just how fashion can make everyone, regardless of age, own and revel in their dynamism. Autumn: Rich earthy shades and in-depth layers highlighted the richness of autumn. The colours and texturing applied here depicted change and transformation. Styles in this segment reflect beauty in maturity as we grow older; they add layers of depth and different complexity, which might be echoed in the wardrobe. It paid respect to wisdom and grace with time. Winter: Sleek whites, icy blues, and soft greys marked the winter collection. Beautifully apt, so eloquently it depicted the soothing beauty and silent strength of frost-covered landscapes. The simple designs gave birth to feelings of calm and stillness, reminding the audience that simplicity is powerful. This section depicted elegance and grace that remain along with us in our life’s seasons. The Reinvention of Saree: Tradition Meets Modernity Innovatively experimenting with the design of the saree, a rich cultural legacy of India, which was done by JD School of Design. Tradition and modernity side by side-thriving in this one’s imagination. Innovative drapes and cuts made it up with a perfect blend of timeless elegance carried by the saree and some fresh modern twist to it. Models from the community, all senior citizens, strut down the runway with a swagger and swept off in Indo-Western saree styles, fusing tradition with innovation in design. It seemed that for no age bar or background, a saree would adapt with time. Here, the saree had transmogrified into something much more for the sake of inclusiveness and celebration of the past. Design for All-Timeless style and elegance The show at Samvaad, however, was more than a visual affair. It became a celebration of design for all. Senior citizens, who had participated throughout the evening in cultural performances, walked down the runway wearing both traditional and contemporary designs. That goes to prove that there are no age limits to fashion and that style is eternal, and design is for every generation. At JD School of Design, design is at the core of what we commit ourselves to teaching and creating. We encourage our students to design things that speak to different audiences; therefore, beauty or elegance does not belong to a particular age or body type. The Jediiian design council members Sakina Yusuf Petiwala, Manasvi Yogesh Patel, Sayoni Guha, Lavanya P, Akila S, Dharini, Anushka Somya , Ricky Mahesh, Joel Sequeira, Bhumi Badera, Amulya Jadhav, Bhakti Shah, Kritika Dokania, Suvarna Sharma, Archana C, Simran Sharma, Sanjana R, Ruquaiya Perween, Shreya Khare, Kajal Sundesha, Kumari Sandhya. B, Harsithaa jayavel, Disha Agarwal, Rachita Jain, Palak Bothra, and Alina Susan Mathew worked extremely hard in putting on a successful show under the guidance of Ms Suma M.  The Eternal Dance of Time perfectly described the concept: the genre is like a global language that celebrates individuality and empowers people from all walks of life.  A night embracing the idea of design; many generations connecting us all came alive at Samvaad by Silver Talkies. JD School of Design and TheStyle.World, as styling partners, revealed the true essence of timelessness in fashion: tradition, modernity, and the beauty of all ages blended into this show. This fashion show was a success, thanks to both our creative designers and the timeless philosophy that design is for everyone. And we continue to champion ageless fashion and the belief that every individual deserves to experience the evolution and transformation of design. Indeed, it was one of the unforgettable nights when fashion, culture, and life came together; it left us with the powerful message that style knows no age and design is for all.

The annual event is so much more than just another talent show; it is an opportunity through which students come and celebrate the various artistic skills that blossom from their hearts beyond classroom walls. It featured music, dance, drama, and many other art forms, so it was a true testament to the innovation and talent nurtured at JD School of Design. Students at JD School of Design have been challenged to think out of the box and creatively think beyond the classroom walls. With strengths that include interior design and fashion, as well as knowledge of space planning, JD Got Talent was an avenue to let students be themselves and express other talents that they may have. From solo musical renditions to energetic group dances and any other talent, it was enough to get the audience caught up in their zest. A Platform for Self-Expression and Collaboration The mission behind JD Got Talent was for people to fulfil themselves by expressing and collaborating. There was a union of unique blends of students from different academic programs who collectively celebrated all things art. Whatever the act-because be it a soulful solo performance, or a captivating group every performance focused on creativity, teamwork, and individual excellence. What made this affair special was the inclusiveness. It encouraged every student to join, not only to compete but also to nurture their talents. A spectrum of creativity that can be observed through soft, melodious music, through energetic dance routines, of all kinds, they celebrate at JD School of Design. A Celebration of Creativity in All Its Forms More than an award for exceptional skill in design, JD Got Talent was the arena wherein students would be able to air their selves in ways that go beyond what the curriculum can provide. Some were original musical compositions, drama scenes, or dance routines which were all choreographed to perfection. Every single performance was a reflection of the student’s passion and individuality. It was further added by the event in terms of the value of gaining confidence in performance. To put this into a better perspective, from their usual roles as students to emerging artists, participants stepped onto the stage and gained rare experience about being present and working together. Beyond Competition: In Harmony Healthy competition: JD Got Talent indeed fueled a healthy sort of rivalry, but the general idea behind the program was to be more of a celebration rather than a contest. The colleagues came together, closely cheering on their peers and going merry in their colleagues’ successes. The atmosphere was one of encouragement and support where every participant felt valued and appreciated. As quoted by the Managing Trustee Mr Nealesh Dalal, “JD Got Talent is not about exposing designs but is about bringing out the diversity in the talent of our students. It’s an open platform where each student could be himself/herself and present his or her creativity in a positive space”. Inspiration and Fun Rolled Into One JD Got Talent instilled inspiration among all those present, and certainly, the faculty members were not spared by the passion and energy transmitted by the students. It also became a scope to leave aside the academic rigour and have fun just for the sake of that day. The audience was full of laughter and applause and sometimes standing ovations as they enjoyed every moment of the performance. Finally, JD Got Talent is an outright spectacular show, just throwing that out there and making a huge light on the incredible creativity that exists within the walls of the JD School of Design. It proves that creativity has no bounds because indeed every student has something unique to offer. With the curtains closing in this year’s event, it was evident that JD Got Talent had, yet again, succeeded in bringing out the best in everybody, reminding all of us that creativity indeed has no bounds.

Onam Pookalam to Fashion Design How Floral Patterns Inspire Fashion

Onam Pookalam to Fashion Design: How Floral Patterns Inspire Fashion 2024

Fashion Courses Interior Design Courses Jewellery Design Courses UI/UI Courses Visual Arts Courses Other Courses OTHER COURSES Contact us Bengaluru Campus 1 : JD School of Design, No. 18-1, Brigade Road, Bengaluru,Karnataka – 560 001. Made out of layers of blossoms, these radiant designs are much more than just part of the festive tradition. Pookalam conveys a great tradition of cultural bearing, prosperity, unity, and the beauty of nature. What if we took that very tradition and translated it into something more modern? What if these floral patterns spilt over into contemporary fashion design? Floral motifs have always been a favourite of the fashion world. Their timeless charm speaks a universal language of elegance and graciousness. However, inspiration from Pookalam gives more of an opportunity to blend cultural heritage with avant-garde fashion. Students at JD School of Design get inspired to see how traditional designs like Pookalam can look and inspire modern garments. How does the floral pattern of this dear festival influence today’s fashion industry? Pookalam: A Canvas of Inspiration The Intricate-colorful patterns of Pookalam, made with marigolds, roses, jasmines, and other seasonal flowers, provide a visually captivating canvas. Visualize these patterns not on the floor but transferred onto fabrics, creating a blend of nature and art. The symmetry, the flow of colours, and the textures of the flowers themselves offer endless possibilities for designers to experiment with. From the subtle-most dainty prints on a summer dress to very loud embroideries on a statement gown, the incorporation of Pookalam-inspired floral patterns into fashion can be made. The radial symmetry of Pookalam designs can appear as an eye-catching centrepiece on any garment, drawing one’s focus to the beauty of structured yet organic forms. Bringing Tradition to Fabric Prints One of the most effortless integrations of Pookalam-inspired designs into current times would be through prints on fabrics. The floral patterns could easily be reimagined digitally by taking on the same motifs and colour palettes that make Pookalam so enchanting. The print could be scaled to everything from a delicate, small motif emblazoned across a flowy tunic to larger, more abstract versions that take over the fabric of a sari or flowing maxi dress. At JD School of Design, students learn how to work with various printing techniques so that such designs retain their inspiration while fitting into the modernity of textiles. They will learn to use block printing, screen printing, and digital printing to extract such incredible nuance of Pookalam on fabrics that fit the lifestyle today. Adorning the Garments with Floristic Art Beyond prints, flower motifs can come into being as embroideries: hand embroidery, sequins, and beadwork all combine into an almost three-dimensional floral tapestry on garments. It would have been possible to achieve a tangible, wearable life with regard to the layered beauty of Pookalam by layering materials like organza or tulle with floral appliqué. These kinds of embellishments are usually experimented with by the students at JD School of Design, who include traditional motifs into their work in a very modern and innovative way. Another rendition of heritage amalgamated with contemporary design helps them come up with such beautiful garments while narrating the story of rooted culture. A New Era for Floral Patterns Flowers have long been associated with fashion, being symbolic of femininity, romance, and, naturally, the beauty of nature. Drawing inspiration from a tradition as rich as Pookalam, designers can offer so much more meaning behind those floral motifs. The process of making Pookalam, which is an act of mindfulness and collaboration, could be emulated in the effort that designers put into their work with great care. Imagine a bridal collection wherein each garment represents one layer of Pookalam, with flowers denoting love, unity, and new beginnings. Or a festive collection where the bold colours of floral arrangements find their way into chic modern silhouettes, giving traditional wear a contemporary twist. JD School of Design: Where Tradition Meets Innovation Fashion, to us at the JD School of Design, is something over and above a mere style statement; it is a reflection of our identity and our roots. Hence, our students are encouraged to explore cultural inspirations such as Pookalam and experiment with how they can be adapted for today’s fashion world. They are guided through workshops, hands-on projects, and mentorship to develop designs that are not only beautiful but deeply meaningful. So, the next time one sees a breathtaking Pookalam during Onam, one should remember that it’s also supposed to be the pivot of inspiration for today’s fashion. From prints on fabrics to embroidery on garments, here’s to hoping the beauty of the flowers will bloom into something even more exquisite. Whether you are a budding designer or an avid lover of fashion, look towards traditions like Onam for your inspiration. After all, some of the most breathtaking designs arise out of some of the most of nature’s creations. And herein at JD School of Design, we are here to help you turn that inspiration into something unforgettable.
