From The Classrooms To Milestones: April 2026 At JD School of Design

April at JD School of Design is a month that seems like one of movement, where ideas get explored, skills get sharpened, and milestones get celebrated. April is a month that unites learning, looking into the future and making memories that actually matter. Learning To Observe, Not Just Snap Pictures On April 16th, Canon organised a photography workshop that encouraged students to see the bigger picture. Mr Mohan Dass Mathew and Mr Siltu Ghosh delivered a session that encouraged all participants to think outside the box. Although the session involved learning about the basic technical details of photography, it included an element of thinking in terms of light and other aspects required to make a narrative out of the photographs taken. Perhaps what was most notable about this session was its approach – rather than snap pictures, the idea was to communicate using photography. Where Fashion Meets Future “The Role of Fashion Design in the Age of AI,” by Divya Gulati, was refreshing because it brought a futuristic approach to the classroom setting. The discussion led to debates about the role of technology as an enabler of innovation and not as an obstructionist element. Divya Gulati made the ideas about virtual styling, wardrobe optimisation, and how AI can assist in building a better future with fashion design very clear. It was not a conventional lecture but rather an image of the future that the students got from this talk. The students realised that their career path in the future would take a variety of turns. Purposeful Creation: The Weaving Workshop The Danish Cord-initiated Hands-On Weaving Workshop brought in a whole new rhythm in the month, one that was more thoughtful, contemplative, and immersive. Under the tutelage of Mr Govind SG, the students worked with Danish cords made of bamboo pulp and engaged themselves in a practice requiring them to be very meticulous, focused, and diligent. It was not just a workshop; it was a reconnection with the philosophy of design, where the process is as important as the product, and traditional crafts continue to have relevance in contemporary design. Moment of Pride – Celebrating Greatness! This month has seen yet another cause for celebration and inspiration at the JD School of Design. One of the best achievements that was witnessed during the Bengaluru City University Rank Felicitation was none other than Deepthi Sri, who was first in her class. She serves as a source of inspiration for everyone. From her initial days of setting up her base to excelling in her class, her life is a remarkable example for all students to follow. Learning and Beyond Many things were unique about April at the JD School of Design, and one of them was the way in which students were taught. It could be through the viewfinder of a camera, or via a computer interface, or even on the loom. Somewhere along the way, learning turned into discovering, and discovering turned into growing.

Across disciplines, students stepped beyond conventional boundaries to explore design as a powerful medium of expression, storytelling, and transformation. The month began on a high note as our design students brought the Cruise Carnival stage to life with a spectacular fashion showcase. Through bold costumes, playful concepts, and imaginative designs, the runway transformed into a visual celebration of color, movement, and festive energy—capturing the true spirit of carnival. Expanding their learning beyond garments, our BSc First Year Fashion Design students visited The Good Life Store in Fontainhas. In an engaging session with founder Anjana Sharma, students gained valuable insights into retail strategy, sustainability, and conscious curation. The experience highlighted how thoughtfully designed retail spaces can communicate powerful narratives and elevate brand identity. Innovation met functionality as students explored bathroom and sanitation design, reimagining everyday spaces through the lens of elegance and smart living. This exercise emphasized how design can enhance quality of life by seamlessly blending aesthetics with practicality. Under the theme “Designing Experiences: Spaces That Speak,” our BSc Interior Design students translated theoretical concepts into immersive spatial environments. Their projects showcased the harmony between art and interiors, where each design told a unique story. From conceptual installations to expressive spatial forms, students demonstrated how ideas evolve into meaningful, lived experiences. Creativity in craftsmanship took center stage with Threads and Textures, where Diploma in Fashion Design students explored fabric manipulation and ornamentation. Through intricate embroidery techniques and innovative fabric explorations, they transformed simple materials into detailed, expressive works of art—reflecting patience, precision, and creativity. March also marked the much-anticipated Young Designers Festival 2026, a dynamic three-day celebration of creativity and collaboration. The festival brought together exhibitions, expert talks, presentations, heritage walks, and architectural explorations across Panjim—creating an inspiring platform where ideas flourished and learning extended beyond classrooms. We are proud to celebrate our students’ achievements at Converge 3.0, where Interior Design students were recognized as Young Entrepreneurs 2026. A proud moment was the interaction between the Honorable Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, and our student Kabir Rastogi, who ներկայացed an innovative virtual reality model. The project—a thoughtfully designed 2BHK apartment for an artist—embraced a client-centered approach, blending Wabi-Sabi, Biophilic, and Bohemian design philosophies. The resulting space was envisioned as earthy, natural, and serene, where textures, materials, and organic forms come together to create harmony and authenticity. As we conclude March, the journey reflects a commitment to designing beyond boundaries—where creativity meets purpose, and ideas evolve into impactful experiences. At JD School of Design, every project is a step toward shaping future-ready designers and innovators.

This gave the interior design students an insight into how technology effortlessly merges with built environments. Day two of the visit was dedicated to furniture systems, sustainable lighting, upholstery details, and heritage pieces crafted by skilled artisans. Multiple batches participated, reinforcing cross-level exposure and shared learning. The Business Behind the Build Live Construction Site Visit For MSc Interior Design 2024 (A & B) and PGDID 2024 students, February also meant stepping into an active construction site. This visit emphasised the business dimension of design — coordination with contractors, BOQ interpretation, vendor management, execution timelines, and cost monitoring. The students witnessed how drawings transform into structures, how responsibility goes beyond creativity to management, and how decisions are made. It was designed in motion, structured, collaborative, and accountable. Beyond the Classroom, Into the Industry February 2026, at JD School of Design, was marked by movement – movement between disciplines, spaces, and viewpoints. From textiles to advertising strategies, from craftsmanship in jewellery making to intelligent systems of mobility, from marble slabs to construction sites – all experiences underscored one thing: Design education needs to be experienced to be understood. At JD School of Design, exposure is not an afterthought. It is an integral part of the learning process, designed to ensure students are not only entering the industry but are able to navigate it with clarity, confidence, and creative responsibility.

It was a month that reflected the spirit of JD, a place where the students’ passion meets their learning, and the idea becomes experience. Crafting Precision: BLUM’s Module Installation Workshop JD started the month with the Module Installation Workshop by BLUM, a worldwide leader in functional furniture fittings. The workshop, which was designed to provide students with a hands-on understanding of modern hardware systems, combined design and engineering through the live demonstrations of fixtures, drawers, and lift mechanisms. The students learned how precision, ergonomics, and aesthetics can be combined to produce intelligent interiors. The session was indeed a great example of the JD’s principle of learning by doing, where students’ exposure to practice enhances their creative thinking and the design’s functionality. Material Expo 2025 Material Expo 2025, one of the most significant academic events of the year, was transformed into a vibrant hub of textures, finishes, and innovations on the campus. The event organised by the Department of Interior Design was an exhibition of a wide range of materials – from hardware and construction parts to eco-friendly finishes and smart systems. Each exhibit was student-curated not only for aesthetics but also for sustainability, functionality, and design integration. Besides, the on-site insight program also had outcomes linked to the material expo that helped bridge the gap between the classroom and industry. Students’ direct involvement with the latest technological advancements in materials substantially deepened their understanding of the impact that their design choices have on the users’ spatial experience. Lights, Camera, Learning: Filmmaking Workshop by Sony Imaging The Department of Digital Design Experience organised an enlightening Filmmaking Workshop in association with Sony Imaging. The session conducted by Mr Umesh Gowda, Manager of Sales, and Mr. Satish, Technical Specialist at Sony South, was an invitation to the students to the technical and creative facets of professional filmmaking. The students were introduced to the concepts of lenses, frame rates, and lighting, wherein they learned how these aspects influence storytelling and the creation of the desired mood. Immediately, the audience could see the change of a frame through the exactness of the technology in the live demo. This comprehensive experience served as a reminder to every creator-in-waiting that filmmaking is the conjunction where art meets science and the visionary meets the executor. Design Thinking Display 2025: Spaces for Fictional Lives   The Design Thinking Display 2025 was all about the power of imagination with the theme “Designing the Unreal- Spaces for Fictional Lives.” The MSc. Interior Design students took the challenge of redesigning spaces for famous fictional characters, creating the surroundings based on their personalities, habits, and even emotions. They followed the five stages of Design Thinking — Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test, transforming empathy into design language. The presentation included the elements of 3D models, light fixtures, and concept boards, which demonstrated the harmonious relationship between storytelling and design. It was a reminder that at JD, creativity is not confined by the real world – it actually stretches it further. Celebrating Artistry: Module-End Display in Fashion Design   The Fashion Design Department celebrated the end of their module with a grand fashion show – the Module-End Display. The main aim of the display was to showcase the developmental journey of students with a focus on their skills in illustration and embroidery techniques. The exhibition was a visual feast of fashion artworks, intricately embroidered samples, and conceptual designs celebrating the spirit of the individual and the art of the craft. Each work was not only a demonstration of the technical skills but also an expanding, deep understanding of design aesthetics, colour harmony, and creative expression by marking a significant point in every student’s artistic journey. Hands in Clay: Faculty Clay Modelling Workshop During the month of October, the faculty members had the opportunity to participate in a Clay Modelling Workshop, a refreshing and fruitful session that led educators back to the origins of their creativity. The session concentrated on form, proportion, and texture – thus, reminding the attendees of the production of their joyous skills with their own hands. The workshop was at once a meditation and a source of artistic reflection, as well as renewed creative energy for the mentors of the JD community. Jediiians Got Talent: Where Creativity Takes the Stage The bevvy of brilliant activities held in October was brought to a close by Jediiians Got Talent — an evening full of energy, laughter, and marvellous performances. The students of all the departments came forward to exhibit their unexposed talents — be it singing from the heart or a particular dance, dramatic monologues, fashion walks, and live art. The event was more than a competition; it was about building a community. It united the creative family of JD under one roof, celebrating the unique traits of each other, friendship, and the communal love of expression. The evening was in harmony with the JD ethos — a place where every talent gets a platform, and every platform gets its share of acknowledgement. Mastering the Digital Space: Workshop with Mr Ganesh Shetty In an era when creativity and technology are becoming more and more intertwined, the Digital Marketing Workshop held by the guest speaker, Mr Ganesh Shetty was a great source of getting knowledge for students about the transformation of online branding and the digital communication sphere. Mr Shetty underlined that being knowledgeable in analytics and

For us at JD School of Design, it’s also about expression — the fierce, unbridled kind that manifests in performances, feelings, and collective moments of happiness. That essence was brought to life at Jediiians Got Talent 2025, our eagerly anticipated cultural fest, where the students interpreted “bold” in all its forms of creativity. Hosted at Prabhath Kala Sambrama, the festival was a confluence of energy, diversity, and interdisciplinary excellence. The crowd saw a stirring fusion of art, music, dance, and martial arts — performances that spoke not merely as acts but as statements. Be it a traditional solo or a state-of-the-art contemporary number, every performance bore with it the spirit of the JD Way— based on originality and unapologetic expression. In his speech, JD Educational Trust Managing Trustee and JD School of Design Founder Mr Nealesh Dalal touched on the greater significance of the evening by saying, “Though we always felt this truth, students getting the opportunity to live up to it through shows like this is our constant reminder.” His statement reflected the sentiment in the room — that such events are not just entertainment but serve as platforms for students to discover and express their identities beyond the syllabus. Amidst spirited performances and loud applause, there was a glimpse of subdued pride when the institute celebrated its academic rank holders—students who excelled in the Bengaluru City University results from both the Fashion and Interior Design streams. Tisha N. Jain, of the B.Sc. Interior Design and Decoration (IDD) 2021 batch, was awarded the 1st Rank— a special achievement. In the B.Sc. Fashion and Apparel Design (FAD) 2021 stream, Prerana S V secured the 4th Rank, Prerana Jain the 5th Rank, K K Manasa held the 5th position, Deepthi Lunia was the 8th, Rishika P was the 9th, and D Sanjana was in the 10th rank. They are a testament to the balance we promote at the JD School of Design—where intellectual rigour is paired with creative growth and where excellence is not a solo pursuit but sought out simultaneously along multiple fronts. Their achievement was not an individual one but a communal one—fueled by the cohort of peers, coaches, and educators that pushed them forward every step of the way. As Jediiians Got Talent 2025 concluded, it left us with more than memories. It showed us the future that we are creating — one where designers are not only doers and thinkers but cultural contributors, highly attuned to their passions and poised to shape the world through voice, vision, and values. At JD School of Design, we remain committed to our vision: to raise the next generation of bold innovators. This event was another powerful step along the way.

Design Takes the Stage – JD Design Mela by B.Sc. IDD June 2025 Batch JD Design Mela, a colorfully module-end display curated by B.Sc. IDD June 2025 batch marked the beginning of the month on a highly inspirational note. With students wrapping up their Fundamentals of Interior Design module, the Draping Lab was transformed into a vibrant exhibition of creativity and innovation. The display depicted design principles through hands-on experimentation and craftsmanship by interactive sheets featuring magnets, pop-up art, printing techniques, and scaled prototype models. The initiative gave students a chance to showcase their original thinking, meticulous work, and conceptual zoning – thus, making a theoretical bridge to a practical world. Every nook and cranny was bubbling with the thrill of students’ progression as young interior designers. Festivities in Full Bloom – Onam Celebrations September 4th saw the JD campus bursting into colour and joy as students enthusiastically celebrated Onam. The making of gorgeous Pookkalams—detailed floral art representing prosperity and togetherness—was the centre of attraction. Laughter, music, and the scent of flowers could be sensed all over the area as the traditional dance performances and a fashion show enlivened Kerala’s spirit. The fest was a great merger of past and present — uniting people through the spirit of design and festival. A Surprise with Heart – Teacher’s Day Celebrations The Jediiian Design Council planned a beautiful surprise for the faculty by organising a heartwarming Teacher’s Day celebration. From the start of the day turned into an awesome event with games, performances, and laughter — the happy cake-cutting ceremony was the icing on the cake. The occasion was an excellent presentation of the JD family concept, where teachers are not only mentors but also the guiding stars in every student’s creative journey. Global Inspiration – Nippon AYDA 2025 September also marked JD’s presence at Nippon AYDA 2025 (Asia Young Designer Awards) — a prestigious global platform for the celebration of design innovation. The challenge asks young contestants to provide sustainable and human-centric solutions to real-world issues. Furthermore, it acts as a conduit between academia and the design industry, giving students access to a variety of global outlooks, mentorship, and the chance to sharpen their artistic voice. AYDA remains a source of motivation for JD’s young designers to think big, be responsible, and create a social impact through design. Creative Workshop – “Mark Making for Design” with Josephine Cowell One of the most rewarding experiences of the month was the Mark Making for Design workshop conducted by Josephine Cowell, International Academic at UAL’s London College of Communication. The last-year students’ session was designed to prompt the participants to venture boldly into texture, tool, and material experimentation — thereby rejuvenating one’s creative side. Students were so absorbed in the physical activity of mark-making that they reaped the benefits of on-the-spot creativity and exuberant expression through design. Clay, Craft, and Creativity – Pottery Workshop Adding more to the month’s hands-on experiences, the B.Sc. The IDD 2025 batch had fun making pottery as a part of the 2D and 3D Graphics module. Under the tutelage of master craftsmen, students moulded clay into meaningful shapes, learning the “language of texture, materiality, and form.” The session declared the splendour of skill and patience, reminding the students that a great design is often the very touch, instinct, and trial from which it begins. Sustainability in Focus – The Conscious Carpet Campaign JD students also participated in Sustainable Fashion Week India at Hotel Shangri-La, Bengaluru, through The Conscious Carpet Campaign. This Wellness in Textiles project included workshops on embroidery, sewing, mending, and careful garment care, all of which fostered sustainability and an emotional bond with clothes. JD students were essential in installations, assisting with wayfinding, and curating the event, leading the audience to see that design can bring about positive change. Dancing Through Tradition – Navratri Garba Night September ended with a bang at Navratri Garba Night — a fantastic evening of colours, rhythm, and celebration. The campus was sparkling with colourful ghagras, kurtas, music, and dance as students came together to honour creativity and community. It was not just about Garba — it was about the togetherness that defines JD. Through captivating displays and workshops, cultural festivities, and industry collaborations, September 2025 was a reflection of what JD School of Design really represents — learning beyond classrooms, celebrating creativity, and nurturing designers of skill, heart, and soul. Looking forward to more months of inspiration, innovation, and unforgettable JD moments.

From immersive workshops that honed technical and artistic skills to campaigns that sparked conversations on sustainability, the month reflected the school’s vision of nurturing well-rounded designers who think critically, create passionately, and act responsibly. B.Des 2025 Immersive Workshops For the B.Des 2025 batch, August was about diving into hands-on learning. Students participated in two workshops that balanced creativity with environmental consciousness. The first, 3D Perspective & Illustration Out of Waste Textile, introduced them to depth, proportion, and spatial arrangement through perspective drawing. At the same time, they explored sustainable creativity by repurposing waste textiles into striking illustrations, reinforcing the idea that design can emerge from both imagination and responsibility. The second session combined Pebble Art, Nail Art, Clay Art, and Art Out of Waste. From turning pebbles into storytelling canvases to shaping clay into sculptural forms, every activity encouraged experimentation. The art out of waste exercise, in particular, challenged students to find beauty in the discarded, demonstrating how upcycling fuels innovation. Emotional Intelligence 101 Masterclass Design is not just about skill; it’s also about empathy and awareness. Students from BSc IDD 2025 and BSc FAD 2025 attended “Emotional Intelligence 101”, a masterclass by Upskill Minds. The session helped students connect with their emotions and those of others through activities such as self-awareness exercises, empathy mapping, and group reflections. It highlighted how emotional intelligence can strengthen personal growth, academic performance, and professional success—skills as vital as design tools themselves. D5 Render Workshop: Turning Ideas into Immersive Visuals Technology took centre stage in the D5 Render Workshop, held on August 7th at the JD School of Design campus. Interior Design students from MSc ID, BSc IDD, ADID, and DID streams explored the possibilities of real-time rendering. The workshop guided them through creating photorealistic visuals, experimenting with lighting, materials, and environments, and even producing walkthrough animations. By the end, students gained not only technical proficiency in D5 Render but also confidence in presenting their design stories with impact. MSc IDD 2025 Orientation Display – Chronicles in Layers The MSc Interior Design 2025 batch made a striking beginning with their orientation display titled Chronicles in Layers. This showcase transformed two-dimensional portraits into layered three-dimensional artworks, highlighting creative approaches to depth, perspective, and storytelling. The works combined craftsmanship with conceptual thinking, offering a glimpse into the batch’s potential and setting an inspiring tone for their journey ahead. August 2025 at JD School of Design showcased how creativity, technology, empathy, and sustainability intersect to shape designers of tomorrow.
