Focusing on the power of SolidWorks, the workshop helped refine the students’ capabilities to create complex models, solve problems with the help of advanced tools and plugins, and generate renders that would help them to rise as a benchmark in the world.  Workshop Objective and Outcomes The primary objective behind the workshop would be to teach some advanced drafting techniques, including 3D rendering, through the use of SolidWorks’ powerful Visualize rendering plugin that is a game-changer in the design as well as presentation process by which the students can generate photorealistic images and create impressive marketing visuals and also validate design elements before actually putting them into production. The participants were expected to leave this session ready to apply the advanced rendering techniques they would be learning and be completely proficient by the end of the session. Explore the purpose and potential behind SolidWorks Visualize. The workshop delved into the rendering features of the Visualize rendering plug-in. Such a plug-in provided the ease of integration with SolidWorks, thus greatly simplifying the process from design to visualization. The students were taught how these could establish very aesthetically pleasing visualizations for presentations to clients and other material that could be used for marketing purposes where they could openly express their designs with photorealistic details. The session would emphasize that high-quality visualizations were not only necessary for aesthetic appeal but also as an aid in the validation of design elements such as colours, materials, and finishes before the preparation of physical prototypes. Participants learned to create simulations of various materials and textures with perfect accuracy. This puts the ability of the maker to select better material and, therefore the final product is more real in its preview to the clients. In interactive renderings, such as 3D animations and virtual reality presentations, new opportunities for stakeholders’ engagement are brought about to the students to ensure that they have thorough explorations of their designs and valuable feedback. Hands-on Learning Outcomes To guarantee that all students would have hands-on experience with using SolidWorks Visualize, the workshop was designed in a way where each pupil learned setup for scenes, material change, and lighting adjustment to make renderings as attractive and engaging as possible. Lighting setup, both natural and artificial sources, was a detailed aspect of understanding since these impact the visual attractiveness of the final output. Students practised and refined their skills further in the arena of scene composition, which included the selection of good backgrounds and camera angles with properly prepared perspectives to bring life into their design. The workshop also provided space for making animations – the other important part of the course. The attendees learned to show the product’s functionality dynamically. That helped all such participants to increase their portfolios with great visuals. Exporting high-quality images and videos for presentations and marketing became routine, as well as equipping the students with the tools to communicate to the clients their design conception. What makes the workshop so outstanding is that it discusses how the factors of business in rendering could work for the advantage of students by building a competitive edge, featuring uniqueness in the market, and encouraging better engagement with clients. Providing lifelike images and animations with the designs can help designers create a better understanding and discussion of their designs, therefore making presentations more impactful and memorable. The workshop was very apt for students who wanted to master the art of rendering and come up with an excellent design portfolio. It equipped the students not only with technical knowledge but also with the ability to convey and communicate design ideas visually, which prepared the students even more for presentation, thus raising their confidence when talking to clients. This Advanced-Level Drafting & Rendering Workshop in SolidWorks provided the learning experience combining technical skills with the practical business acumen that may allow professionals with interior design to fly in their field. As such students continue on their journey, the knowledge and skills acquired as part of this workshop will undoubtedly prepare them for real-world design challenges with creative imagination, precision, and professionalism.

It could have been just a show; but was much more than that celebration of inspiration in creativity, collaboration and design acumen, rather. Each of the three had to create a set for a movie or series of his choice based on a 6′ x 6′ floor area. How innovatively they rose to the challenge remains an appreciative mile. What was of course unique about this exhibition was that students were successful in merging their interior styling skills with the narrative storytelling approach. By choosing some of those poignant moments from films or series, they brought the narratives to life through set design skilfully transcribing the mood, character and setting of the stories the students chose into fully styled spaces. Designing the Set: A Creative Adventure The challenge was not simply to design a room, but to capture a story. “Each group was tasked with carefully selecting a scene and thinking of innovative ways to convey the emotions and period of that moment”. Their creative process included space planning, choice of colour and texture, playing with light, and the right props to advance the narrative. In this way, set design appeared as a canvas for storytelling, where every element was used to add depth and atmosphere. Attention to detail was what was characteristic of each display. There were spaces from modern and slick to historical and cosy, which paralleled the diversity in the stories chosen by the students. Be it a gloomy film noir scene or some colourful moment from a romantic drama, the students managed to turn a blank space into a world that included character and emotion. Hands-on Experience in Set Design This is not only creativity but also an interior styling lesson where the students get hands-on experience in the art of set design. What each group had to do was to come together, be flexible with space, and tell a visual story using skilful design within a 6′ by 6′ set. It was a test of teamwork, time management, and problem-solving as they brought their ideas to life. By working in a small space, the students had to think outside the box to make sure that their sets conveyed the right aesthetic impact. It is an excellent creative exercise because they tried overcoming challenges without compromising the integrity of their design concepts. Learning Through Storytelling What the module-end display entailed was more than just showing off one’s technical ability. After all, it also had to do with learning how to communicate through design. But for interior stylists, it’s important to know how to use space, colour, and materials in telling the story. Capturing the mood and tone of their chosen narratives through their displays, students showed a deeper understanding of design principles such as space planning, colour theory, and texture combinations. Collaboration and Teamwork The most precious output achieved from this project was creative collaboration and teamwork. Here, a student is forced to communicate his idea well, discuss it, and cooperate with the other members in achieving what they will have come up with. This is a fundamental skill in the world of design: even huge projects require the input of multiple perspectives. What many students reported in their reflections is how the project taught them to listen to one another, to compromise, and to assist each other in building from the ideas of others. The result was a series of displays that coalesced with unbelievable cohesion, feeling very thought through and not just a reflection of talent but also the power of teamwork. A Talent and Growth Display Module End Display- The final display of the module reveals how much these students have developed since their first days in school. What took place from day one was transformed into this final project inside the classroom comprehensive realization of all they learned about interior styling and design principles. Their displays did not only demonstrate technical skills but also creative vision, problem-solving and readiness to face the challenges of the real world. The exhibit is a treat for the visitor, who can get hands-on experience of how design can make and transform a space and bring a story alive. This was always going to be a poignant moment for the students, a celebration in pride of the knowledge they had gained, of the practice as a group. The abilities, creativity, and experience the students of the MSc 2023 A and B batches went through as they moved forward should be taken with them. It was not only the close of a chapter but a beginning for them in interior styling. These are students who can translate tales of designed environments into realities, and who possess a knack for collaborative problem-solving; therefore, we can expect them to be leaders in the design industry. Where their creativity will take them from here is something we all are looking forward to seeing!

Not about passing a test, it’s more about letting the creativity skills and problem-solving abilities be unleashed by the students.  The prize money was in the form of Samsung e-vouchers, but what stood out was their desire to move ahead in the ranks of their peers. They were challenged to apply their new knowledge and think on the spot to present novel design solutions. Finally, two students came out as winners, whose solutions were cheered and applauded by their peers. Every participant left something very valuable behind- knowledge. Each student was awarded a certificate by Samsung, a tangible addition to their academic portfolios, marking their participation in this innovative workshop. The Power of Technology: Samsung’s Presentation on AI and the Galaxy Ecosystem The presentation to stand out in the day can be said to be the new technologies being presented by Samsung, as per the newest technologies of Galaxy AI and the Galaxy Ecosystem. This session showed how AI-driven tools could be envisioned for streamlining workflows, generating ideas for designs, and even automating a few repetitive tasks thus giving them more time to be more innovative. Students were amazed by how the Galaxy Ecosystem streamlined integration across devices. Having the ability to design something on a Galaxy tablet and then present those designs on a Galaxy phone in seconds opened the eyes of many. It has served as a flexible, powerful resource that meets the needs of students today. A Memorable Experience Photo-Ops and Student Engagement In the end, the students were made to take fun photographs before a specially designed Samsung gate arch, perfect for a background shot as well as to capture some memories of the day. It was neither an Instagram moment; it was a visual representation of a collaboration between JD School of Design, Samsung and The Times of India celebrating a day dedicated to innovation and forward-thinking. Over 100 participants were students of all years. It was, therefore, one of the largest and most successful workshops that the semester had witnessed. With the state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment put in place by JD, this event ran with no bumps. Many of the students were able to absorb every good word shared. A Glimpse Into Tomorrow The AI Design Thinking Workshop, brought to life by Samsung and The Times of India, was a glimpse into the future, where creativity, innovation, and technology mix marvellously. As part of the JD School of Design, this class returned with newfound knowledge, and inspiration to be tomorrow’s designers, ready with all the tools of the trade at hand.

In essence, it’s a celebration of new ways and creative solutions as our students transform theory into practice. Unveil Design Thinking and Line Language At the very centre of the display was knowledge from the students about combining design thinking and line language in interior design projects, guided by Ms. Uditi & Ms. Rashmi. It shows how these methodologies allow learners to engage in complex problem-solving, project development, and functional dynamic design. Design thinking, with its strong markers of empathy, creativity, and rationality, gave a rich framework for real-world problems, while line thinking gave the structured approach needed to order ideas in space. By bringing these two approaches into practice, they have managed to come up with both innovative and practical design solutions. Objectives and Insights The objective was mainly to be able to show student works that demonstrated a complete depth of understanding and practice of design and line thinking.  Integrated Problem-Solving: The students showed how design thinking was woven within their problem-solving and project development processes.  Dynamic Design Solutions: Line thinking was used as a technique, thus giving an exact idea of how this tool assists in creating functional and beautiful designs.  Iterative Refinement: Emphasis on feedback and incremental refinements guarantees better project results.  Purpose and Learning Outcomes The event was more of a showcase; it was a story of how students have progressed in this design process. It showed the attendees firsthand: how design thinking begets innovation and user-centred solutions, while line thinking ensures clarity and coherence.  Appreciation of Design Processes: The attendees will further learn how design thinking and line language contribute to problem-solving. Iterative Process Importance: The importance of the design processes being iterative and their role in refining the work were identified. Application of Different Skills: A greater understanding was gained of the variety of projects and the application of different skills and techniques. Project Portfolios Many projects were exhibited, which reflected the students’ ingenuity and technical ability.  Concept Designs and Prototypes: Project work demonstrating user-centred design methods to creative solutions for interior design problems. Detailed Line Drawings and Schematics: Details regarding the structure and spatiality of the designs have been made clear through these. Models: The students worked up three-dimensional interpretations of their concepts using foam clay and stick bamboo. Skills and Knowledge Demonstration The projects displayed were representative of the students’ competence in several critical areas. In user experience design, their work is focused on the needs and experiences of end-users. The iterative design processes the students applied brought out the importance of feedback and continuous improvement. Their ability to communicate through images using various media and techniques was also very clear. Celebrating Innovation in Interior Design The “Display on Design Thinking and Line Language ” epitomised the dedication and ingenuity of the MSc in Interior Design students at JD School of Design, a top design school in Bangalore.
